Model M's are incredible! I thought I was happy with my Das keyboard. But, having renovated and plugged in my Model M from 1989, and, oh my God! I've always had cheapo clone keyboards -- this is my first true IBM. It is a real joy to type on. It sings. Now, I don't think I can use it when my partner is around, because it is incredibly loud. But oh, so satisfyingly loud! And at least for a while there is no one to disturb here. It took a bit of effort to restore it, wash everything and rebolt...

Bought a Model M — Decided to buy a real IBM Model M. Just got it yesterday. As I've been warned it is really heavy -- nice. And pretty dirty. Can't test it until my PS/2-USB adapter arrives. Until then, I need to clean it. So far managed to soak and wash the cable. Need to find my keycap puller and get it open, but I've been unable to be productive lately. Maybe tomorrow.

I'm using Zoom75 with Nordic ISO. The keycap selection is very limited and I have had to build it out of several sets. ANSI has more variety to choose from, so I bought one. The Chillkey ND75. Now I have a new pain. Configuring the layout using Linux. The websites to program them requier win or applah. I have several tabs open to search how to make it, but havent found the energy yet. If you know an easy way to do it please share.

Is lateral key stability a thing? I feel like some keyboards have less “wiggly” keycaps. Because my hand position roams over the keyboard as I type, I’m always hitting keys at oblique angles, so this wiggle is a noticeable factor in my experience.

Still Happy With Das — I don't claim to be very serious about mech. keyboards, but I do find regular keyboards too shitty for words. I now own 3 Das keyboards - one small, without a keypad, one relatively quiet (my partner still claims she can hear me 'violently typing' in every room), and one nice and clicky blues. I really have nothing to complain about. They work well, look good, have a thick, rigid metal plate on top, and even have a hidden magnetic ruler that doubles as a wedge. Well, if...

I recently got my first mechanical keyboard, a launch heavy from System76 and I’m in love with this thing! It feels so nice to type on, and the build quality is excellent. I haven’t gotten to swapping out switches or caps, but I love being able to. Anyone else use this board before?

OK, I think I am a mech-kbd-nerd. But my partner calls me 'a violent coder' - bottoming out a brown Das keyboard (I prefer blue, of course). So I put my keyboard-nerdiness on hold for now, and whisper-type when she is around. I have two Das boards - a brown and a blue.

Anyone else having custom keyboards? — Some non-gemini friends insinuated that there would be an overlap between geminauts and mechanical keyboard nerds. Let's test that hypothesis! I (their only data point) have been daily driving my gherkin 30% keyboard for well over a year now (or is it two?) for fun and profit. Before that I had two planck 40%. How small is too small? What are you using? Am I alone here?
